Nice to know (you)
  • “Deep Turnaround” is Schiphol product sold through Aviation Solutions to other airports around the world.
  • Of course, you will receive proper guidance throughout: you’ll have weekly check-ins with your mentor, and you’ll have the freedom to experiment within the boundaries of the internship.
  • “Deep Turnaround” is a Schiphol-developed product that is offered to airports worldwide through Aviation Solutions. It generates data and corresponding analytics specifically designed for the airport ecosystem—developed by an airport, for airports.
Connecting your world

Schiphol offers an excellent environment for your graduation internship. You will be part of a dynamic and complex organization, with sufficient time and space to focus on your assignment while contributing your own ideas. Throughout your internship, you can rely on strong guidance and professional support from Pascal Unai (Data Scientist).

At Schiphol, we connect your world. Together with our people, we ensure that travel is safe, efficient, and responsible. You contribute to this by bringing your unique strengths—demonstrating focus and resilience in achieving your goals, even in the face of challenges, and showing genuine awareness of and attention to the needs of others. What will you do as a Machine Learning Intern? You will apply your talents to Deep Turnaround, a system that uses real-time image feeds from cameras located on aircraft ramps. By stacking various machine learning and deep learning models, Deep Turnaround tracks everything happening around the aircraft and predicts potential delays. This information helps ground handlers, airlines, and airport personnel improve the on-time performance at Schiphol, directly impacting the travel experience of its customers. Your responsibilities are:

  • Designing experiments to compare the performance of different models. Particularly within computer vision or time series prediction.
  • Experimenting with training methodologies or optimization techniques on our current models.
  • Developing a solution to tackle a specific computer vision use case. Ranging from people tracking or vehicle counting, to complex event identification.
You've got this

  • ML foundations: A good core machine learning concepts (supervised/unsupervised learning, overfitting, bias vs variance, evaluation metrics, cross validation etcetera).
You get this
  • € 450 gross per month, based on a full-time internship of 40 hours per week.
